New Chelsea Elementary School Hosts First Hispanic Heritage Fair

New Chelsea Elementary School celebrated its first annual Hispanic Heritage Fair on Friday, October 9, bringing students, families, and community members together for an evening filled with music, food, and cultural appreciation.

The event was a joyful celebration of Hispanic heritage, featuring live music, dance performances, delicious food, and an atmosphere filled with laughter and community spirit.
Students and their families had the opportunity to come together, celebrate cultural traditions, and enjoy the vibrant festivities.
“The live music, the food, the community, it was absolutely a wonderful event. There were so many smiles,” said New Chelsea Elementary School Principal Dr. Dana Jackson.
A highlight of the event was the street tacos prepared by the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) president and vice president, which proved to be a crowd favorite.

“Their contribution added a special touch to an event that emphasized the importance of community involvement and cultural celebration,” said Dr. Jackson.
New Chelsea Elementary School Family and Community Engagement Specialist Charlesetta Jackson estimates that about 300-350 families turned out for the festive event. She believes hosting an event like this plays a big part when it comes to community engagement.

“We can all learn a lot from each other and share opportunities. Being able to help our families, scholars with any challenges they might have we face together,” said Jackson.
New Chelsea Elementary’s inaugural Hispanic Heritage Fair was a memorable occasion that brought the school community together to recognize and celebrate the rich cultures and traditions that make it unique.
“We believe that the celebration of our diverse cultures is a privilege that we love to highlight. New Chelsea Elementary School staff, students, and families prioritize learning about each other and learning to love our differences, added Dr. Jackson.
